Egyptian Whisky?! [Highlands Whisky Red Review]

Hi everyone,

I’m back from my wedding and honeymoon, so it’s back to reviewing every whisky under the sun! I was on honeymoon in Marsa Alam in Egypt (It was amazing!), and noticed that on the drinks menu of the hotel bar there was a ‘local’ whisky.
Well, of course I had to try it. Who could resist the chance to try Egyptian whisky?

Highlands Whisky Red 40%
Colour: E150a
Body: Light
Nose: Ah, they went the artificially flavouring route. Aniseed and liquorice all the way, very pungent. Cheap spirit and solvent, paint stripper.
Taste: Thin like water, overwhelming artificial liquorice and aniseed. Rubbery and slightly weird.
Finish: Short length. Thin, aniseed balls.
Highlands of where? Egypt? A real eye opener in what some people would define as whisky. Really this is a liquorice liqueur. Lovely plastic bottle too!
22/100

Thanks for reading!

  1. Have you tried auld stag while you are there, it is also an rgEgypti whiskey and I think that it is not artificially flavored.
