Blended Whisky #1 50yo TBWC Review

Hi everyone,

Old whisky is a funny thing, don’t you think?
You leave spirit in wooden barrels for years and years. It evaporates. The spirit interacts with the wood. With the oxygen getting in.
I am 24 years old. This is the joint oldest whisky I’ve tried, at 50 years old. That’s TWICE long as I’ve been alive. TWICE! It gets you thinking. Who distilled these whiskies? Who put them in the barrels? Are they still alive?
TBWC Blended Whisky 50 46.6%
Colour: Dark Gold
Body: Medium
Nose: Deep and rich. Date and fig, floral oak, soft oak for 50 years, black grapes, cherry sweets, black cherry, vanilla, black cherry gateau. I’m guessing Sherry casks have been used to mature or finish a large proportion of whatever this is.
Taste: Rich and dense. Black cherry all over it, dark orange, fig, soft oak, again the oak is very restrained for 50 years! Soft spice, again restrained. A little flat into the finish though.
Finish: Short/Medium length. Falls flat with a little fruit.
Lovely lovely nose but the finish really doesn't do this justice. I think perhaps some of the whisky here had fallen below strength and they tried to save it by blending it with something higher strength. It worked with the nose, but that flat finish tells all. Oak isn’t too much though, which is pretty amazing.

Thanks for reading!
